More Stick-Ons!

I know you are probably tired of Stick-Ons, but they are so fun to use! If you've not yet tried them...get your hands on some and give them a try!

Here is another way to use the snowflake Stick-Ons.

I sponged some brown Staz-On ink onto the Snowflake Stick-Ons to make them match the grunge look of the papers I chose for this layout. I used some crackle paint (Tim Holtz) on the chipboard letters, and then inked them a bit. I created my journaling in Photoshop Elements 6.0, using a free journaling box downloaded from Faith Sisters, and some fonts downloaded from the Internet.

And before you panic, that snowy scene is NOT here in San Diego! It was in Pennsylvania in the winter of 2004/2005!

Last minute gifts

The cards are sent, the gingerbread's been baked and you're done shopping.
Then you realize you forgot your mail carrier or a neighbor drops by unexpectedly.
Having a couple of quick and easy gifts on hand is a great idea. Here is an example...Snowman Soup!




I found this mug at my grocery store for just a dollar. I layered some Snowflake Stick Ons on the mug. Add some Hot Cocoa, mini marshmallows, and a candy cane and a bit of garland and Voila! A festive and fast way to show your thoughtfulness.

Have You Mailed Your Christmas Cards Yet?

I have made my own Christmas cards since 1995. I know crazy, right? I used to make about 150 to 200 cards! Even crazier! I'm now down to making about 50-60 cards - moving a lot does have the benefit of getting to cross "certain people" off my card list! I have all my cards made, but they are not yet addressed or mailed. I lack follow-through sometimes.

Here are two cards I made using the MOSD Snowflake Stick-Ons. (Both cards appeared on the Card Sketch A Day site in December!)

For this first card I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder to emboss the blue paper. Then I sewed all around the edge (yes, with an actual sewing machine, which I did not break, not exactly anyway...). I trimmed the words from a sheet of scrapbook paper, and hand-sewed them to the card (and I did not even sew the card to my shirt this time!). I added the Snowflake Stick-Ons, and ta-da, a card!
This next card took advantage of the new Inchies craze. (Which is an old technique and used to be called Deco Squares.) I trimmed some squares of paper and added Snowflake Stick-Ons and some glitter with clear Stickles and a glitter pen. Easy and cute!

Clearly Festive

There's something about the holidays that make me want to create. I love working with the color pallettes and adding touches of glitter where I can. My project today is a quick and easy one that can add a bit of festive flair to your home.




Here's what you'll need:
3 pages from a Clearly Designed Acrylic Easel Album
MOSD Snowflake Stick Ons in pink and blue
Large chipboard letters (I used Making Memories)
Zip Dry adhesive
Mica flakes
Ribbon / ric rac of your choice

1. Begin by randomly placing the snowflake Stick Ons to the backs of the 3 acrylic pages.
2. Glue the large chipboard letters to the front side of the acrylic.
3. Outline 3 edges of the pages with adhesive. Add mica flakes over adhesive. Shake off the excess.
4. Tie bow on center hole of each page with coordinating ribbon.
5. Thread banner using remaining ribbon and hang where desired. I like how the frosty effect works with my tree.

Gift Tags

As we've seen here on the blog lately, MOSD products are VERY versatile! You are about to see more!

I had a Cover to Cover Mini Flip album in my stash and was wondering what to make with it. This album is approx. 4x3 inches, has two clear covers, and 6 chipboard pages. All the pages are 3-hole punched to accommodate three rings on the 4 inch side. Hmmmm what to make what to make what to make?

I ended up with 8 gift tags! Check them out! This first one has a stamped and embossed tree (Stampin' Up) and a Bo Bunny embellishment.

This next tag is very simple - just some Daisy D's paper, a Creative Cafe felt flower, some rick rack, a button, and some charms.

This tag looks complicated, but it's not. The paper is "pre-collaged" Daisy D's paper, some lace ribbon, a K&Company tag, some rick rack and gold cord, and a fancy flower from Walmart!

This one required a bit more product, but is still pretty simple. The paper is K&Company, and comes with the script already printed on it! The tag is also from K&Company. The tree is a Cosmo Cricket chipboard piece, covered with a scrap of Basic Grey paper, then sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. The swirl is a Bo Bunny cardstock sticker and the stamp is from Inkadinkado. And then I tied on a bit of Stampin' Up ribbon.

And because I love the Glimmer Mist, I sprayed this gold cardstock with it! The chipboard stocking and paper is Cosmo Cricket, embellished with a gold pen and a glitter pen.

This next tag is my favorite of the bunch! The papers were out of my scrap bin. To match the purple (in real life the colors match better than here!) I sprayed the chipboard key and the paper flower with Glimmer Mist. It's very sparkly and rich looking! Love it.

Then again, this one is also my favorite! This tag is one of the clear covers, edged with white paint. The paper and die cut are K&Company. The pink paper was edged with a Martha Stewart punch. The snowflakes are MOSD Stick-Ons, embellished with Stickles glitter glue. The jewel brad is from Creative Imaginations.

This last tag is the other clear cover, edged with white paint. The Basic Grey paper is just a tad smaller than the tag. The snowflakes are MOSD Stick-Ons, again embellished with Stickles. I added a Bo Bunny tag, some silver cord, and a scrap of ribbon.

Snow Flake Vintage Mask Card How To...

I had so much fun making this card--seriously. The StickOn's weren't designed to do this but with a little effort they make gorgeous masked images. I promise it was still Tuesday when I started writing this tutorial out, LOL.

To make this Card you'll need:

Snowflake StickOn's from MOSD--check our Retailer link to find out where you can pick some up
Cardstock for Base of Card
Creme non textured cardstock
Patterned paper--this patterned paper came from the awesome Chatterbox Limited Edition kit being sold at Sams Club.
Shipping Tag--mine came from Staples in a pack of 50 for less than 4.00
Alcohol ink Cranberry
Alcohol Ink Pearl Mixative
Alcohol Ink blending solution
rub and Blend foam tool From Ranger/Tim Holtz
Paper Edge Distresser--Tim Holtz makes one, Making Memories and Heidi Swapp all have different versions of this tool.
a Script or other background stamp--mine is from Inkadinkadoo-a Dawn Houser design but it's an older stamp, so I'm not sure if it's still being produced.

Ok to get started-

You're going to chose a snowflake Stick On and place in the lower right corner of your tag. Cut out from the sheet and then apply the transfer paper to the front of the Stick On in the normal fashion---now take the stick on and touch it to your jeans/pants a few times--the point is to take away some of the sticking power of the StickOn--I did this about 5 or 6 times--DO NOT press it completely down on your clothing or it will stick! Just touch it lightly quite a few times to some sort of fiber/cloth surface. Now place it on the shipping tag in the lower right corner--let part of it hang off the edge of the shipping tag. Now lightly rub down on the Stick On--do not use the normal pressure--you just want it to release from the backing paper onto the tag--not be a permanant decoration.

Next Take your foam and blend tool and load it up with a few placed drops of alcohol ink in Cranberry--I'm breaking Tim's rules about not using alcohol inks on anything except for non porous surfaces (i.e glass, metal, glossy cardstock,etc). Make sure you have a cutting mat or protected work surface underneath the tag area (trust me, experience talking here) Ok now rub the alcohol ink over the tag and the StickOn. Keep reapplying the alcohol ink to acheive the color you're looking for. Next add drops of pearl mixative (shake that stuff really really well before you use it) and a few drops of blending solution on the foam and blend tool. Rub all over the project or just in places--that's entirely up to you. Just make sure you cover over the StickOn Snowflake really well. Now let it dry. Don't touch it. Just let it dry.

While drying, go ahead and cut your cardstock base for the card--mine measures 5x7 closed. Then cut your patterned paper for the front of the card--I left a 1/4" border of Cardstock showing behind the patterned paper. Before you adhere the patterned paper we're going to shabby it up a little--take your paper edge distresser and rough up the edges all the way around. Next take a new piece of blending foam on your tool and rub it in the Distress Ink Vintage Photo--rub across the rouged up edges and swirl around on your patterned paper if you'd like. It gives a true soft vintage feel to the card. Adhere the pattern paper to the card stock base when you're finished doing the "shabby" to it.

By this time the alcohol ink should be dry. The first step is to pull of the Stick On Snowflake--start with the edge that you left hanging off and pull gently. It may break but you'll be able to lightly scrape the rest of the Snowflake StickOn off with your fingernail or with tweezers. You'll have a gorgeous pattern of the snowflake showing thru the alcohol ink background.

Next take your script stamp or other background stamp and ink it up with a black ink--stamp over the entire tag. Let dry.

Once the tag is dry--take your paper distresser to the edges of it--once you've roughed it all up--take the vintage photo Distress Ink again and darken the edges--rubbing into the area where the alcohol ink is and over the snowflake area. It's a gorgeous vintage effect. Next break out that bottle of red stickles and apply to the edges of the shipping tag--just follow the roughed up edge and apply a fine to medium coat of Stickles to it. Set it aside to dry.

Once the stickles are dry it's time to embellish with a sticker of your choice--this one is from the Melissa Frances Winter Sticker label set and I love the Vintage feel of her products. I can't leave well enough alone so I roughed up the edges of the sticker and then did the blending foam with the Distress Ink in Vintage photo to it too. I noticed I had to apply more adhesive to the back of the sticker--for some reason the alcohol ink lets the regular sticker adhesive lift off the tag. (just a helpful tip, experience talking) or if you'd like you could add a chipboard piece to the tag---whatever you like! Then you can add the vintage trim and ric rack to the button and the tag is finished up!

Promise we're getting close to finishing it up now!
Take your creme cardstock and cut it 4x6---pick out a few of the Stick On Snowflakes and place them in the lower right corner--you can see from my pic above how I placed mine--you're going to do the same process to them as you did before to remove some of the sticky power. Now we're going to rough it up just like before--rough the edges up, then using the blending foam and the Distress Ink in Vintage Photo rub the edges and the ENTIRE cardstock area--especially on/over the snowflake Stick On's. Let Dry.Now peel off the Snowflake Stick On's--the same way you did above. Then take your bottle of Radiant Rain Cinnamon Red and Shake, Shake, Shake it--get all the pearl stuff mixed up really well--then take your script stamp (or other background stamp) and swipe lightly over it--DON'T PRESS DOWN HARD--seriously, experience talking here and you'll end up at the kitchen sinking washing off the stamp and starting over. Ok so now that you have the stamp ready--you're going to stamp over the entire creme cardstock area. Let dry (you can speed up the drying with a heat gun)

It's time to assemble the card--you'll take the creme cardstock and place it on an angle (see the example above for placement picture)and adhere. Next you'll place the tag on the creme cardstock in the opposite angle (again sorry if that makes no sense but a picture is worth a thousand words so you can see the example at the top)
and you've got yourself a Gorgeous one of a kind Vintage Christmas Card to send out to your loved ones! Stamp a sentiment inside, use a rubon or your own handwriting!

I know it seems like alot of steps but they go very quickly since you can start the next step while the other steps are drying. They would make fantastic gift tags on the pressies under your tree if you just wanted to to do the tag--it would be a fantastic way to do a Scrapbook layout for the snow season and Holiday season--the possibilities are endless--and remember the Stick on's are available in LOTS of different designs so you're not limited to only snowflakes--just click on the link at the right to take a look at all the StickOn examples we have listed here on the blog!

Itty bitty gift ideas :)

Just wanted to share some more Snowflake StickOn Fun! This would make a great gift if you're just looking for a fun way to say Merry Christmas and I'm thinking of you. I'm making these for my daughters therapists as part of their Christmas gifts.

To make this you'll need
Patterned Paper
Cardstock
Stickles
Embossing Glitter
Snowflake Stick on's
Sentiment Stamp
Ink to match
Embossing Ink (if you choose to emboss instead of stickles)
Embossing Heat Gun

First I cut my card to measure 5x7 and folded the cardstock.
Next I cut my patterned paper to fit the front of the card, with about 1/4" border.
Then you're going to want to cut or punch a scallop circle. To cut my scallop circle I used my QK Silhouette Cutter, but I know EK Success makes a very large scallop circle punch that would work great for this card. I embossed the scallop edge area with embossing ink and then used Snowflake embosssing powder--it's a fantastic embossing powder that has white and sparkles combined to make a perfect frosty look.
The center cardstock is actually a heavy weight double sided paper--I layered the snowflake Stickon's onto the scallop area and overlapping into the center of the center. Just be sure to leave enough room to stamp your sentiment in the circle area.
Once I had all the snowflake StickOn's placed and the sentiment stamped, I added Ice Stickles in Coffee Ice to each of the Snowflake Stickon's. Just follow the outline of each sticker and you're all done with the card--just let it dry (if it's like my house, put it somewhere little hands can't get in to the wet glitter :)

While that's drying you'll need to cut out out the mini chinese take out box--you can find the template from a coordinating patterned paper or cardstock. Once you have it cut out, folded and glued then you can apply another snowflake stick on to the front and back side of the box. Once again I traced over them with the Stickles and let dry. Add your goodies inside--they fit hershey's kisses and mini reese cups really well :) then add a great bow to the top and you're all done with another gift!


and now for A BONUS project!! I'm always inspired by Tim Holtz's 12 days of Christmas tags--I'm in AWE of his amazing talent and product so I played around tonight and created this card--using some Snowflake StickOn's as MASKS!!! SO COOL--it's a little tricky but it makes an awesome effect! Plus I got to use the AMAZING Cool Christmas Special Edition Chatterbox Christmas Kit (an early Christmas gift--Thank you Alicia!!!!! You're the BESTEST!) to make this fun card! I'll leave you with the pic of the card for now (it's 2:18 am, so I need to get my booty in bed, but I'll be back in the a.m to post the how to's for it

Good Morning Everyone! My name is Maryfrances Fabbri and I am the Midnight Oil Guest Designer for the month of December. Before I get to the good stuff and show you a really neat project I created using some super cool MOSD products I would like to tell you a little bit about me.

I live in Shrewsbury, MA with my husband Gregg and our three wonderful kids, Gail, Grant and Grady. And of course our sweet boy Ace, the sock eating dog. When I am not attending events like theater production, karate, baseball, soccer, school functions, etc. you will find me scrapping all these events and more. I enjoy teaching scrapbook classes at conventions and to adults and children, and each day you will find me on line at Scrapbooker Online.com Since I was a young girl I have always been interested in arts and crafts such as scrapbooking, book arts and quilting. Although I pretty much gave up quilting a few years back to make a go at scrapbooking. And yes, my mother the quilter, does not let me forget it.

I have had my work published in various trade magazines and currently design for a number of manufactures. I am very excited to be working with the MOSD team and look forward to showing you my work that I have done with all the creative and inspiring products MOSD has to offer.

Alright so on to the good stuff....My FIRST PROJECT!

I used the MOSD Clearly Designed Easel and the Pink Pictogram Sick Ons to create this album commemorating our trip to the Jonas Brothers Concert this past summer. If anyone has a 10 year old little girl in their house you know what I mean when I say JoBro!! We thought it only fitting that we all go to see the concert as a family so Daddy surprise all the kiddos with tickets to the event.

When I saw the Clearly Designed Easel I thought of my photos right away. I used a little KI Elsie papers and soft embellishments and I was on my way to creating this fun keepsake for Gail.


















I started out by making some chipboard inner pages and covered them with patterned paper, sanded and inked the edges. I took the MOSD Sick Ons and the Pictogram Butterfly and attached them to the acrylic cover, they go on like butter for sure...so easy. I then took some Stickles glitter glue and embellished the butterfly to give it some sparkle. (you can see a close up of the butterfly below) I then took the acrylic cover and poked holes down the side using my Crop-a-dile. What I love about the MOSD acrylic is that it is thin enough to poke holes through and you don't worry about it cracking or chipping. It is very pliable, and I really like that. I then attached black eyelets in each hole and tied ribbons down the side...I love how this came out.


















This next page was really fun. I took some of the Stick Ons and cut them up into pieces. I then attached them down the side of another acrylic page. I used the acrylic pages as overlays for each of my chipboard pages. I love the effect you get by seeing through to the next page.


















Here is the page without the overlay over it. I used more Black Journaling Sick Ons for journaling lines and added some cute embellishments and a title "Tailgating". What a fun and easy page.


















Here is another overlay using the Crown Stick On. I cut out the cirlce around it and used this alone for a simple effect.


















Here is a nice example of the Stick Ons being cut into pieces to show another use.

I hope you like this little book and have gotten some new ideas on using the MOSD Sick Ons and the Clearly Designed Easel. I could see someone creating a calendar or an ABC book with this album. It is the perfect size for little hands and would make a great gift for a new baby or a grandparent.

A little bit of snow to share

Winter is on it's way here for sure! Super cold, wind blowing and snow showers. It's a little early here in the South here for it to start--but I love it. Get's me in the holiday spirit!

Speaking of snowflakes and holiday spirit--these ornaments were super easy to make.

You'll need the following to make the ornaments

Clear Glass ornaments (buy at the local craft store's)
Paint
Clear glaze glitter paint or white school glue thinned down with water
Glitter, fine and coarse glitter.
paper cups
Snowflake stick on's


How To:
To do the Silver and Blue ornament
Take the ornament ball and the glitter glaze or the thinned out white glue and pour about 1-2 tsps inside. Swirl around making sure to coat the entire ornament completely. Then turn the ornament upside down in a paper cup for the excess to drain out. Don't leave it for long or it will dry completely. Once drained, take the coarse gliter and pour 1-2 tsp's inside the ornament and shake it around to coat the ornament. Add more glitter if you have blank areas. Let dry for a couple of hours. Put the ornament cap back on.
Now it's time to pick out the snowflakes from the snowflake stick on sheet. I found out that the snowflakes with skinny spindles actually applied better to the curved surface. Rub them on completely. TA DA! You have a gorgeous snowflake ornament!

To do the Pink multi paint ornament

Take pink paint and pour a small amount about 1 tsp in the ornament swirl around. Let drain over a paper cup. Come back in about 10-15 minutes and pour your second color of paint in the ornament ball. Swirl around again. Let drain into the paper cup.Take your fine cut glitter and swirl around in the ornament, some will show heavily and some will not. Wait another 10 minutes and then pour in your third color of paint. Let drain over a paper cup for a couple of hours. I used pink, light pink and white paint on the example. Don't get impatient when adding in the second and third colors of paint, if added too quickly the colors can become muddy. Put the ornament cap back on. Then you're ready to apply the snowflake stick on's.
You could add further embellishments with ribbon, a little bling, some christmas floral mini picks(those are super cheap this time of year)
These would make great gifts for the kids to help make for grandparents, teachers and friends. Just be sure to watch the younger ones, these ornaments are glass and will break. Or another great gift idea would be to make a complete set of ornaments for a terrific present. The ornament sets are usually sold in a set of 6 and can be purchased using one of those great 40% or 50% coupons.

Here is a quick project I created using the covers to the Clearly Cute Petite Album and Snowflake stick ons in blue, pink and purple.

(White snowflakes are so "out" this year, lol!)
